Light and water. These basic features can be the most challenging when it comes to innovation. They took center stage as EKFox devised sophisticated MEP systems for the first LEED new office building under the Arlington County Green Building Program.
At the forefront of sustainability issues for decades, EKFox engineers chose lighting control systems that reduced overall energy use in the Navy League building to 4 percent less than that of its conventional peers. Ever resourceful, EKFox also took storm-water management to a new level with advanced systems to catch and store rainwater for landscape irrigation outside and toilets inside. Sustainable plumbing fixtures, including low-flow faucets, further reduced ownership costs while enhancing building performance. Today, the Navy League building stands as a leading example of conservation in a location striving for sustainable growth.
