EKFox Achieves a Platinum First

05.13.09

EKfox is proud to announce that its design of the Fairfax Village Community Center on Ft. Belvoir, VA has been awarded LEED-NC® Platinum Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The project marked a unique partnership between EKFox, Clark Realty Capital, and the Army’s Residential Communities Initiative (RCI).  RCI’s goal is to create world-class residential communities for military families that are safe, attractive, and modern through a private sector partnership that leverages the private sector’s creativity, innovation, and capital. A building must earn 52 out of a possible 69 points in the LEED-NC® scoring system. The Fairfax Village Community Center earned 55 points. In achieving the much needed points for energy efficiency, EKFox effectively incorporated limited ground source heat pump technology as well as a unique photovoltaic panel solution.  EKFox also capitalized on the “Innovation in Design” category by creating a state of the art education module for the center that orients the families and guests to the “green” elements of the building. The Fairfax Village Community Center marks the 16th LEED certified building for EKFox.
